The story of The Pampas Grass Affair begins seven years ago, when aspiring filmmakers Ken Wentworth and his girlfriend Liz Witham pack up their life on the East Coast and drive to California where Liz is attending a graduate program in documentary filmmaking from Stanford University. While Liz works on her student films, Ken decides he’ll make his own documentary. He takes a night class in filmmaking, where his first assignment is to film a parking garage. The concept of the assignment is to find something interesting in the seemingly mundane. Only Ken doesn’t know just how much this first assignment will change his life forever when he meets John Siegfried, a homeless man living behind a dumpster in a Palo Alto parking garage, who agrees to let Ken follow him with a camera and film his life. The result is The Pampas Grass Affair; a feature-length documentary that takes the audience on a fascinating six-year journey through the unconventional life and death of John Siegfried.
